In the spirit of This is Spinal Tap, "Death of a Dynasty" offers a funny and satirical look behind the closed doors of Damon Dash's and Jay-Z's hip-hop empire. Shot in New York City, the film centers around Dave Katz (Moss-Bachrach), a journalist at a hip-hop magazine who is sent on assignment to uncover the often comedic underworld of Roc-a-Fella Records run by Damon Dash (producer of The Woodsman) and Jay-Z (Fade to Black). Dave believes he is a member of the Roc-a-Fella team and privy to the daily "goings on" at one of the world’s hottest record companies. Although he is actually "two timing" the magazine (feeding sordid gossip items about the feuding partners to local gossip columns), the journalist thinks he is a real "playa" only to later find out that he is the one being played.
